I continued my involvement with the Miracle League for the month of April. My favorite day by far was the Easter game. Ms. Gina, who runs the program, asked me to step in as the Easter bunny and distribute candy to the kids after the game. While I wish the weather was much cooler as I baked inside the bunny suit, it brought me so much joy to see the kids reactions. People asked for photos and told me what they wanted for Easter. Of course my costume paled in comparison to the costumes seen in Disney World, but I think the kids still enjoyed celebrating Easter with everyone at the Miracle League.
As for the games, I have been partnered with the same kid throughout this season. He is one of the sweetest boys I've spoken to and does not let anything get in the way of his baseball game. He is such a proactive player, asking the coaches to put him on certain parts of the field, cheering on the players, and practicing his swing on the sidelines. Each child, may or may not have limitations. I think it's important as volunteers to speak on the children's level and make them feel safe asking for help or making a mistake. I always feel awkward saying things like, "Hey, if you need to hold on to me please do so!" I worry that the child will internalize it, but this kid grew so comfortable with me and we had such a great time this season playing together.
